Furman’s will open its home campaign against a big time mid-major opponent, the Troy Trojans. Furman will host Troy for the first regular season game in the renovated Timmons Arena. The date has been confirmed as November 7th, so mark your calendars for the home opener.
The Trojans have three NCAA tournament appearances in their history including their 2025 loss to 3 seed Kentucky. Troy won both the regular season and tournament championship in the SunBelt after a four-way tie with South Alabama, James Madison, and Arkansas State. Troy head coach Scott Cross began his career at UT Arlington, before coaching one year as an assistant at TCU. After TCU, he was hired at Troy in 2019 and finished his first season with a 9-22 record. Since then, Cross has absolutely turned the program around. The defending Sun Belt Champions have won 20 games in each of the last four seasons, and will be looking for another championship and 20 win season this year.
Furman and Troy have never met on the basketball court, with the Trojans only moving up to D1 in 2001. However, it will certainly be a heavyweight mid-major matchup to start the season at Timmons.
