Tommy Humphries: R-Fr. | 6’5 | 215 lbs
Tommy Humphries is a 6'5", 215-pound, versatile guard/wing from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Humphries redshirted, along with fellow freshman Eddrin Bronson, for the 2023-2024 basketball season, leaving him with 4 more years of eligibility. In high school, Humphries was ranked the 5th best player in Minnesota by PrepHoops.com and played for the back-to-back 3A state champions Totino-Grace High School. Humphries committed to Furman over Winthrop and George Mason.
Humphries is most likely coming off the bench for the upcoming season. His role will be crucial in providing depth and energy to the team. Given his impressive high school career and the year of development he had during his redshirt season, Humphries is expected to contribute when called upon. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, combined with his strong work ethic, will make him a valuable asset for Furman. Coach Richey will likely rely on his proficient three-point shooting, as he was a threat from deep in high school. In addition to his high school success, Humphries shot 41% from beyond the arc during his senior AAU circuit for D1 Minnesota. He was one of the best shooters, showcased by placing third in effective field goal percentage during the Adidas 3Stripes Select Basketball Circuit. Humphries, along with Cooper Bowser and Eddrin Bronson will have a high likelihood to solidify a starting role for the 2024-2025 season.
On National Signing Day in 2023, Coach Richey was very complementary of Tommy:
"We are excited to welcome Tommy Humphries to our program. It was clear to us when recruiting Tommy that he fits what we are looking for in a student-athlete: high-character players that have won at a high level and possess toughness and skill. We can't wait to get Tommy on campus."
Tommy has the mentality to show up in big moments, which is what the Paladins will need from their young guys in order to reach their lofty goals. In fact, check out this game winner from his AAU days:
All told, there is plenty to be excited about for the future of the program, and Tommy Humphries will certainly have his part in that. His combination of size, shooting ability, and confidence should have fans excited for his potential. Furman should look forward to seeing what the redshirt season of development has unlocked in this guy.
