Eddrin Bronson: R-Fr. | 6’4 | 184 lbs.
Eddrin Bronson is a 6'4", 184-pound guard from Tampa, Florida. A highly touted recruit in high school, Bronson emerged as the No. 26 ranked player in the highly competitive state of Florida. Bronson played for the highly competitive Tampa Catholic in the 3A division, also showing out against top teams in the nation, like IMG Academy. During the 2021-22 season, Bronson led Tampa Catholic High School to an impressive 22-8 overall record and guided the team to the Florida 3A state semifinals. His exceptional performances earned him recognition as a three time All-County and one time All-District selection during his career. After Bronson’s successful junior season, Tampa Catholic was ranked as the No. 74 team in MaxPreps' Preseason Top 100 in 2022-23.
Bronson chose Furman over programs such as James Madison, Jacksonville State, and Brown. His combination of size, speed, and skill made him a coveted prospect on the recruiting circuit, drawing interest from colleges across the nation. Eddrin had been featured many times by former strength coach Matt Aldred as one of the most explosive and quick-twitch athletes on the team. His athleticism jumps off the charts, and you can almost expect the young man to throw down numerous highlight reel slams this season. On top of this innate driving ability, Bronson can shoot the ball. He came in as a good shooter, but over his redshirt season, Eddrin has been consistent in working to improve his shot to match the college level. He has been able to learn directly from stars like JP Pegues and will be a promising three level scorer right off the bat. Check out some highlights against IMG here:
Bob Richey, now entering his eighth season as head coach of the Paladins had some high praise for the youngster.
“Ed exemplifies what we desire in our recruiting process. He is a gifted player with size, poise, and scoring ability at the guard spot. He values academic excellence and possesses all the intangibles that we seek in student-athletes. He will quickly acclimate to Furman and be an immediate asset to our university and program.”
In the upcoming season, Bronson is expected to serve as a backup to incoming senior Jalen Sullinger. However, it wouldn't be surprising if Bronson occasionally earns starting minutes or plays significant minutes off the bench. His experience competing in Florida's toughest high school division and facing off against nationally-ranked teams has undoubtedly prepared him for the challenges of the Southern Conference. Jalen Sullinger and PJay Smith will be leaned on, so Bronson will not have a lot of pressure to create, which should open up his game and build confidence.
Bronson's versatility and readiness to contribute whenever called upon will undoubtedly be an asset for Coach Richey as he navigates his eighth season as head coach.
